Session 3: Speculative Experimentations

HOME SWEET HOME: Artificial Intelligence and Human Trust and Choice

Kyungmin Kim (Future Media Art Lab)

Abstract

Our team aimed to create a game that utilizes AI-generated models to tell the story of a character who has lost his memory and is searching for his identity. The player experiences multiple planets and receives hints through interactions with NPCs. . The assets of the game environment that the player experiences are all created using AI-generated models, with the goal of eventually expanding the player's game experience.

In addition to game assets, we are also utilizing AI-generated models for storytelling elements within the game. We are using Mid Journey to create backgrounds and NPCs, and ChatGPT to create stories and NPC settings.

In order to utilize the strengths of the AI generation model, which can generate various styles of images, we are creating maps with different concepts that players can experience through the process of self-discovery.

By borrowing the format of a game, we expect that the player's relationship with the NPC will be an opportunity to question whether it is possible to build a relationship between humans and AI-generated models, and if so, whether it is possible to build trust.

During gameplay, when players realize that all NPCs are constructed using AI-generated models, if an AI NPC gives false clues, players are expected to be confused about whether to believe it or not, and this is when they can realize human trust in AI models.

Home Sweet Home game starts with the player waking up in a strange land with no memory of their past or identity. The player slowly discovers their past by collecting clues from NPCs. Players will see different endings depending on whether they choose to find their memories or take on the fate of the world.

There are 4 planets in total, with the last one being the same as the one in the intro. The images for each planet are stylized to match the concept of each planet.
